Forest School at Kirkby Fleetham this week

As it was the last forest school this half term the children were treated to marshmallows to roast over the fire.  Some of the children used knives to whittle sticks into marshmallow skewers before roasting the gooey treats! Dr Vasby also taught the children about some of the plants we discovered in the woods and whether they were safe to eat or best to avoid.

Class 1 at Kirkby Fleetham this week

In Class 1 this week we have been learning all about real pirates! They were not very nice, as we found out when we did some research into some of these fearsome characters. Year 2 created a fact file on their chosen pirate and then everyone made wanted posters for their pirates, complete with detailed descriptions. In our History lessons we have been learning how sea rescue has changed in the last 200 years. We saw a photo of one...

Class 1 at East Cowton this week

We’ve been master measurers in maths, exploring length and mass and carrying out some of our own investigations. In history we learnt about the local sea hero Henry Freeman and were inspired to make our own cork life jackets for the pirate figures. As a result of an impromptu beanstalk growing unexpectedly in our tomato plants we have been exploring the tale of Jack & the Beanstalk, incorporating this into our maths and ordering beanstalks of different lengths.  Finally, we have...

Forest School

This week in Forest School we continued our Conservation work for our John Muir Awards, making improvements to Bluebell Woods.  The Bug Hotel was moved and improved, bird feeders topped up and our bog garden project continued.  We finished a hedgehog house and a hedgehog feeding station and Korben and Claudia worked very hard clearing an overgrown strawberry bed!  Lissy got stuck in a hazel tree and we thoroughly enjoyed holding this lovely toad!  Quote from Jack as he...

Anti-bullying week and odd sock day

We recently participated in anti-bullying week and started the week off wearing odd socks to celebrate diversity and difference. We thought about what the world would be like if we were all the same and decided that would be very boring! We also talked about what bullying is and how we all need to take responsibility for looking after each other and making sure bullying does not happen at our schools.

Skip2bfit visited both our schools recently and everyone had a fantastic time being put through their paces! The children and staff all thoroughly enjoy his visits, and everyone demonstrated real resilience as they learned new skills and surprised themselves with what they were able to do. They were also completely exhausted when he left!

Bonfire Lunch

It was a shame for the children that they were not able to celebrate bonfire night in the same way as they usually do, but our cooks served them up a bonfire lunch with delicious burgers, wedges , salad and bonfire buns – what a treat!
