Building Futures with Love

We want to be a group of schools which enable each child and adult to flourish and be the architect of their own future which is rooted in love.

Attendance

We believe attendance and punctuality are essential, both as a common courtesy to prevent disturbing other pupils and in developing good work habits.  Children cannot learn if they are absent, and lateness can lead to vital elements of explanation being missed.  Our aim is to emphasise the importance of this to the whole school community through good time-keeping in all areas of school life and by regular reminders and praise for those displaying high standards.

Behaviour Policy

We believe that a child cannot learn effectively unless they feel secure, successful and happy. We believe all children have a right to: learn and to make demonstrable progress, feel physically and emotionally safe at all times, be treated with respect and dignity at all times and express their feelings in an appropriate way.

We teach that responsibilities are linked to rights: all people in our school communities are responsible for their own behaviour. Nobody makes us behave badly; we choose how to respond. Charging and Remissions Policy

The education we provide wholly or mainly during school hours will be free, but on some occasions a voluntary contribution towards the cost of an activity may be requested by the school. Parents are free to decide whether or not to contribute. This policy sets out the principles upon which the school will operate charges and remissions.

Collective Worship

Collective Worship is an important part of daily school life at Cornerstone Schools.

Each term we focus on a different Christian value to form the basis of our daily worship. We also follow the Church calendar and children learn how the Christian year is marked by festivals such as Christmas, Easter and Pentecost and periods of observance such as Lent.

Complaints Policy

It is in everyone’s interest that complaints are resolved at the earliest possible stage. Many issues can be resolved informally, without the need to invoke formal procedures. As a school we take informal concerns seriously and make every effort to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.

There are occasions when complainants would like to raise their concerns formally. In these cases, the school’s formal procedure should be invoked.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed with the unique needs of the children in each of our four schools at its heart. Building on an engaging and stimulating foundation in Early Years, our four-year rolling programme provides meaningful, creative and knowledge-rich learning experience, which enable children to become active, healthy, imaginative and engaged citizens of the world.

Our Christian value of love, weaves throughout all teaching and learning, and high academic expectations are set alongside a nurturing approach to pastoral development. Carefully curated topics and meaningful themes enable all children to learn to love themselves, each other, the world and beyond.

Governors’ Information and Duties

As a school we are very proud of our governors who take their duties very seriously and give up their time in the interests of the whole-school community.  They make an important contribution to raising standards and maintain high aspiration.

OFSTED & SIAMS Reports

OFSTED is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. They report directly to Parliament and are responsible for inspecting and regulating schools, pre-schools, nurseries, and any services caring for children and young people, as well as those providing education and skills for learners of all ages.

SIAMS inspection focuses on the impact of the Church school’s Christian vision on pupils and adults. This involves looking at the school’s Christian vision, the provision the school makes because of this vision and how effective this provision is in enabling all pupils to flourish.

Pupil Premium

Reading & Phonics

Here at East Cowton we use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised to plan and provide daily engaging phonics lessons. This allows our phonics teaching and learning to be carefully sequenced, progressive and consistent in EYFS and KS1 across all four Cornerstone Schools. curriculum section of the website to find out further information by following this here.

Relationships and Sex Education Policy (RSA)

RSE and PSHE is about the emotional, social and cultural development of pupils, and involves learning about healthy lifestyles, positive relationships with others, sexuality, the changes experienced when growing up, diversity and personal identity. RSE and PSHE involves a combination of sharing information, and exploring issues and values. It involves keeping children safe both on and off-line. It enables pupils to explore their own and other’s attitudes and values and builds their self-esteem and confidence to view their own sexuality positively.

Remote Learning

Where children are being asked to learn online at home, the school will use the information provided by DfE, NSPCC and PSHE Association to do so safely; and

our regular communications with parents and carers will be used to reinforce the importance of children being safe online and we will help them understand what systems school is using to filter and monitor online use. We will ensure that parents and carers are aware of what their children are being asked to do online, including the sites they will be asked to access and be clear who from the school (if anyone) their child is going to be interacting with online

Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy

The Governing Body of the Cornerstone Schools takes its responsibility under section 11 of the Children Act and duties under “working together” to safeguard and promote the welfare of children very seriously. Our aim is to realise the potential of all our children by addressing their individual needs. We strive to ensure children at our schools are not being discriminated against because of physical disability, national origin, language, religion or gender.

School Uniform

When children are in school, they are part of a community and by wearing a simple school uniform we hope to promote a feeling of equality, partnership and belonging.  We therefore encourage school uniform for all children.  All items of uniform and personal possessions should be named.
